Hi everyone and welcome to the all new Planet Photoshop. I am very excited about this new look and I want to give a big shout out to our web designer, Brett Nyquist, for his hard work on making this new site a reality. We have expanded the blog space to bring you even more industry news every day, and of course a new video tutorial every week. The very best part is that it is all absolutely free. For you first-time visitors, I want to welcome you and hope you enjoy. For you loyal ‘Planeteers’ out there, I hope you enjoy this new look and easy-to-navigate content. Notice also that the blog now allows comments. Please feel free to drop me a line. Well, I hope you all have a great Friday and for those of you who will be at Photoshop World in Orlando next week, make sure you stop say Hi! See you then!

Corey shows you how to recreate this rugged, weathered look using a couple of filters, blending modes, and layer masks.
Use a clipping group to place an image inside of a background of text, with another layer of text placed in front to create depth.
In this tutorial Corey shows you how to take an existing image and turn it into it’s own custom brush.
In this tutorial Corey creates a realistic-looking coin effect using the channels palette and the lighting effects filter.
If you’re trying to set type that looks typographically correct in Photoshop, there’s an old habit you’ll have to break, and that’s the curse of putting two spaces at the end of every sentence. This is a holdover from people who at one time used traditional typewriters, where adding two spaces was necessary, but in typesetting that’s a huge no-no. About 70% of the text I copy-and-paste from text files that people give me has two spaces, but I use this Photoshop tip to fix the problem in just seconds. First, go under the Edit menu and choose Find and Replace Text. In the Find field, press the Spacebar twice (entering two spaces), then in Change To, press the Spacebar just once. Click Change All, and every time Photoshop finds two spaces at the end of a sentence, it will replace it with just one, making you typographically correct.

I like the new site design, except for the font used for main text.
It’s unbelievably difficult to read. I hope you will reconsider it.
This is one of my favorite sites - but it will be much harder to glean information with this font. Thanks for all the great info you provide, tips of the day, tutorials, etc.

Hello Corey,
My compliments to the web designer. New design is great. Anyways if i may suggest is to make users interact more with each other and with you there, you can organize some monthly contest here on Planet Photoshop so registered users can demonstrate theirs Photoshop skill on given subject. I think that would be great both for users and you guys out there. And all of us here would be able to see variety of creativity.
Cheers

Corey,
Great redesign. I tip my hat both to the designer and the implementer. You guys did great things with this. I agree with NEMESIS about the contests. With the new user interactivity through comments, it wouldnt be hard to start a just-for-laughs contest on a certain weekday. Perhaps Friday. I know that other sites do this, such as Fark.com, but Im sure that you guys could do it with some style, too.
Cant wait for that next tutorial!
