Voices Across the Country

I know, I spent way too much time on that title. The point is, I want to remind you web designers and aspiring web designers alike that we are just a little more than a week away from the Voices That Matter: Web Design Conference in San Francisco on October 22 – 25. Why do I bring this up? Because I am teaching two pre-conference workshops. The first one is called Building A Website Using Photoshop & Dreamweaver. The second one is Interactive Content with Photoshop & Flash. It’s going to be a lot of fun because we are going to be doing the “fun” stuff, which is designing visually, with very little code involved. More than that, there is a long list of conference sessions covering creativity, context, and structure. There is still time to register, so check it out here.

Create A Composite Layer

If you have a multilayer composition and you
want to apply an effect to all the layers at once, don’t flatten the layers–use a composite layer instead. Hide the layers you want excluded, and press Shift-Command-Option-E (PC: Shift-Ctrl-Alt-E). A new layer will be created at the top containing a merged copy of all the visible layers.

Another option is to create a new layer at the top of the stack and make it active. Command-click (PC: Ctrl-click) each layer you want to include to make those layers active, as well. Press Option-Command-E (PC: Alt-Ctrl-E).
