So What Do You Think?
Well it’s just been a couple days since Adobe announced the new Creative Suite 4 and it certainly has generated a lot of buzz and I want hear what you think. I would for love everyone to comment on this post and tell me and others what you think of this new version. Especially with Photoshop. I have to admit, I am very excited about some of these new features. I am especially psyched about the new 3D features. No, I am not necessarily a 3D expert but the cool thing is you don’t have to be. It’s really easy to implement this features into your design work even if you never really used 3D before. I will definitely have some new tutorials here on Planet demonstrating how you can take advantage of these.
Also be sure over and check out the Layers CS4 Learning Center for videos on all the other apps in the Creative Suite. RC has also posted a Photoshop CS4 video demonstrating the Flash panel configurator. Which allows you to create customized toolbars and panels.

Using Subclips in Premiere Pro

Creating Place Scale Markers
You know those scale markers they have on maps that say that 1″ equals 1 mile? Well, Photoshop can create something called Scale Markers. These are measurement guides that are created based on the measurement scale you use. Once a measurement scale is established, go under the Analysis menu and choose Place Scale Marker. In this example, I have established my measurement scale to interpret 100 pixels as 1″ in a file that’s 10″ wide at 100 dpi. So if I want to create a 3″ scale marker, then I would enter 3 in the Length field. I can also choose to display text as a label for the marker. You can choose its color and placement depending on the file.

I think Photoshop has nothing to do with 3D. There are much better tools for this! I also don’t want to listen my mp3 with Photoshop!
Other features like the rotation of the canvas (I’m a WACOM user) and the adjustment panel are great.
I also like the feature of adjusting the size of the brush in a faster way(as shown at Photoshop World - I think). By the way, this is the way Maya do it for a long time.
But all at all, the best would be the GPU support. So you can work way faster - I hope!

Well as for me, I’m going to stay with CS3. I know that there’s always a lot of hype with the release of a NEW version, but I’m not seeing anything I can’t live without. I gotta admit, there are some interesting looking toys, but nothing crucial.
With an 18 month development schedule, I can’t afford to keep trying to stay current every time, given the cost of the Suite. I’ll hold out for CS5. What’s another 18 months?
Please keep providing tutorials that work with older versions, cause I really find them useful.

I agree with Michael Reeves, especially the request to you guys to keep providing tutorials for older versions. Well for at least CS3 (if not CS2)

I agree with Reeves as well. I didn’t see anything that made me say “wow, I better upgrade to CS4…and fast.” I saw some neat things (3D and rotation tool) but I don’t think not having them will affect me in the least. At least with the rotation tool, the work around in CS3 is extremely simple and fast if you’ve done it a few times.
I’ll wait until CS5.

I really don’t see any WOW factor in CS4 however Bridge and Camera Raw look good. The improvement in Dodge and Burn might prove helpful in photo restoration which is my primary interest. I will do the upgrade primarily for Bridge and ACR.
