If you guys are thrilled as much as I am about the new 3D stuff in CS4 then go over and check out the newest episode of Layers TV. This week I play around with 3D and show numerous way you can use it in your work. Even wrapping a video clip around a 3D object. Here’s the link.
Also for you fans of motion graphics and movies. The new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace opens this weekend and I do believe we are in for a treat. However I did cheat a little and found the opening title sequence online. It really is quite impressive with a slight nostalgic feel. Although the song doesn’t thrill me. At any rate, I think this is going to be a good one. If you remember the previous bond movie Casino Royale, also had an impressive title sequence, with a much better song in my opinion.

Corey goes back a few decades in style and explains how to create this groovy text design.
You know those scale markers they have on maps that say that 1″ equals 1 mile? Well, Photoshop can create something called Scale Markers. These are measurement guides that are created based on the measurement scale you use. Once a measurement scale is established, go under the Analysis menu and choose Place Scale Marker. In this example, I have established my measurement scale to interpret 100 pixels as 1″ in a file that’s 10″ wide at 100 dpi. So if I want to create a 3″ scale marker, then I would enter 3 in the Length field. I can also choose to display text as a label for the marker. You can choose its color and placement depending on the file.

Corey, I have to disagree. I found the song used for Casino Royale to be unlistenably cheesy. At first I didn’t like the Quantum song either, but by the middle of the sequence it had achieved a blend with the visuals. There was no such cohesion in the Casino Royale opening, probably because the designer wouldn’t have listened to that putrid noise while working. Just a guess.

I can’t tell you how many times my wife had to sit through the opening sequence for Casino Royale. By far, one of the greatest motion graphic + video sequences I’ve ever seen. I am stunned and impressed upon every viewing. As for the song, I remember not being a huge fan, but the graphics were so awesomely overpowering that I can’t say it detracted from my enjoyment in any substantive way.
Haven’t seen the Quantum of Solace opening yet, but if it’s anywhere near as good as Casino Royale’s I will be very pleased. =)

I agree 100%…I thought the Casino Royale Opening killed Quantum of Solace. Yes…Solace looked cool, but it was the same thing over and over again with the same look, and the song was horrible…great movie though! = )
