What’s up everybody! Just wanted to remind all of you that in addition to this site I have a number of free tutorials over at the Layers Magazine website. Not only in Photoshop, but also Illustrator, After Effects, and InDesign. Also don’t forget to check out Layers TV. The weekly podcast hosted by RC Concepcion and myself where we cover topics ranging throughout the Creative Suite. You can watch the show here or on iTunes.
I will be in Richmond, VA next week on May 27 with the Down & Dirty seminar tour. This is the second stop in this newly launched tour and I am very excited to bring it to the city of my birth. Yes, I was born in Richmond. Anyway it’s going to be an awesome day of fun and learning. So if you are in the area, come spend the day with us and get inspired. You can find out more about the class schedule and register here. Hope to see you there!

If you have a multilayer composition and you
want to apply an effect to all the layers at once, don’t flatten the layers–use a composite layer instead. Hide the layers you want excluded, and press Shift-Command-Option-E (PC: Shift-Ctrl-Alt-E). A new layer will be created at the top containing a merged copy of all the visible layers.
Another option is to create a new layer at the top of the stack and make it active. Command-click (PC: Ctrl-click) each layer you want to include to make those layers active, as well. Press Option-Command-E (PC: Alt-Ctrl-E).
