Exclamation Moving a Layer's Central Point & Guide Issues

I am trying to adjust the central point of a layer beyond it's own shape and to a guideline intersection so I can have a fixed rotation point.

However the point does not snap to the guidelines, even with snap turned on.

Also the guides appear to be 2 pixels thick, making it even more confusing to align a layer with the guides when there are 2 different positions of what may be considered the "center"

What can I do about this? Much of my work relies on precise symmetry and so far CS1 was more efficient at this. (using CS4 now)

Thanks

guides don't have an actual weight. i also recommend using zoom if you want to get your rotation point as close as it gets. because snapping is for objects not object properties.

Zoom only makes the issue more questionable because I'm even more aware that you can only position an exact point in the left or right portion of a guide, but there is no absolute center.

I appreciate the efforts, this seems like such a simple problem but I've broken no new ground yet...

Hello and welcome to the Planet

If i understood you right you are looking for this:
Ok, you have guides on, Snap turned on. Then to snap center of that object on some layer you can do it this way too: select that layer then enter the free transform for that object on that layer and you'll see it's centerpoint from free transform bounding box and move that up to the place where guides cross each other.

See ya

Nemesis,

Thank you - setting the values in the free transform dialogue boxes is helpful, but still not the precision i need.

I just did a test where using snap I dragged an object to what was suggested as the center of a guide. The document is 2400 x 2400, which would make the center axis at 1200 pixels in. When snap was used, the object was located at 1200.5. When I manually edited the number to make it 1200 straight, it "accepted" the changes but checking again the value remains at 1200.5, like it just resets.

Half a pixel may not seem like much but I work with very intricate and sometimes very small artwork where that's all the offset it takes to notice something's wrong.
