So I'm now assuming that you're printing with spot colors, or maybe some process, some Pantone, etc. out of CS2.

Were you asking how to print spot colors from PS?

Default spot colors?

im guessing that sounds right. I need to be able to print specific colors, but I need to print them in black. Sound stupid, right? I need to be able to split my design into several different colors, and then print them in black.

This might be too difficult to do in ps.

I may just have to buy steak lunches.....

just do it like we told you, and then print in black and white.

I think it's easier to create a base layer and duplicate it for your desired color specifications

duplicating them can be a very good idea. it will also save you a lot of time. make sure that you keep the original layer.

Hello ladies and gents

I am sorry that i am chiming in late but you have misunderstood the question of original poster. He wants to know how to make composite CMYK document as separated one in each plates for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.

In silk screen printing for t shirts to get full color print you need to have each channel separated in individual plates that will be used for making contact film and with it to make final print and for CMYK (basic 4 color job) document it needs to go in 4 passes.

Now the question is how to make separations in Photoshop. Ok, here is the real deal:

If you have your pre press file already converted to CMYK with previously made adjustments to the document you should go to: FILE>PRINT...

In PRINT dialog on the right hand side you will have drop down menu (right next to Printer drop down menu) and depending which have you been used before you'll see either OUTPUT or COLOR MANAGEMENT in drop down menu. Part that you need is COLOR MANAGEMENT. When you have selected it bellow you will have options for it. Then click bellow on DOCUMENT radio button. And bellow radio buttons you will have yet another drop down menu from which you will choose SEPARATIONS.

When you have done that click on PRINT button and you will be welcomed with OS driver for list of printers and you choose for printer Adobe PDF and in that dialog again click on PRINT button. After that you will be prompted to save your PDF document at desired location. So when done you will have PDF document with 4 separations for each channel from CMYK composite.

So basically in short this covers up your question because you have in some options how to set lines per inch, angle and dot shape for each channel depending on job you have to print. Here you can achieve some cool halftone pattern effects.

Cheers mate

I think we ALL misunderstood the original question.

He wants solid plates to print as spot colors. No halftone dots. No screen angles or rulings. No CMYK.

Hey Tim, Tell your sneaky, steak eating employees to change the colors in the original (native) file to spot colors.

Cheers!

Then if that is the case he should make Multichannel and from those channels to make spot ones.

The most popular program used on desktop computers for color separation is Adobe Photoshop software. Photoshop has the ability to convert from any of its many color spaces to CMYK, and with excellent results Out of the boxs the color conversion from RGB to CMYK can be unacceptable but this is usually because Photoshop owners don't take the time to set up the program to make pleasing color separations

Default color seperation

please. This used to work for me but, apparently, Ive done something wrong. I have vista, PSE 6,

Every time I try to use the paint bucket or color picker I always get gray. The colors will change in the little window, when all the colors come up in a new window, but dont change on the right tool bar. Any suggestions as to what Im doing and how to correct it?

Thanks.
