Default I'm New and a Question About Actions

Hello, everyone, and happy Tuesday evening (or maybe Wednesday morning, depending on where you live...). I'm new to both the forum and to PS, so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Penney, and on the web, I'm sometimes known as Lady Red. I'm mom to 3 adult children, Grammy to 11, and my oldest granddaughter, Shyla is 19 and just become engaged, so I might be GREAT Grammy sometime in the near future. I live in sunny Southern California, and I'm a former genuine, certified California beach bunny. Don't do the sun thing any more at my age, though.

I've been into graphics design for about 7 years now, but up until this point, I'd been using Paint Shop Pro only. I have version 9 at the moment. My son gave me PS CS2 recently after getting tired of hearing me fume and sputter while I tried to convert some Photoshop tutorials to PSP. So now I am attempting to learn all the ins and outs of PS, which brings me to my question. I was trying to use some actions that I had gotten from a digital scrapping site, and while PS was performing the action, I got some notices saying that some basic commands like cut, expand and feather weren't available. Okay, I said to myself, but why? They're in the edit menu, so why weren't they available? Do these commands need to be loaded into the action menu or what?

If anyone could give me an idea of how to remedy this little boggle, I would be most grateful!
