magnetic lasso help

Ok so I go to select and area of my picture with the magnetic lasso but when I select the desired I then make a new layer out of it, but when I do the part of the image I selected fills white....what am I doing wrong?:mad:

Hi,

Try when you make selection outline with Magnetic lasso (oh yes, you have to be on layer which contains the picture you want to select an area of it) to press COMMAND+J (MAC) or CTRL+J (PC). You should end up with new layer in Layers palette with only selected part of that image.

No the problem is that it doesn't give me the image I want just the shape of it filled with white.

Hello,

Than try this to solve that problem. Select the Magnetic Lasso tool and in Options bar CTRL+click(MAC) or Right click (PC) on current tool icon and you will see a small window which say RESET TOOL and RESET ALL TOOLS choose whatever you like and you will be prompted to apply that. That should reset your tools.
