Hi there,
I am completely new to photoshop, so excuse me if this is a stupid question. :D

I have some text written on a coloured background, and I want to cut it out from that image. But I don't want the resulting image to be an even rectangle, I want it to be exactly almost exactly the same shape as the letters of the word.
I realise I can just create a new image with a transparent background and create the text from scratch, but I want a roughly cut out shape with areas of the background colour creating a rough outline for the letters.
Is it possible to actually cut out pixels of the image? So that that area essentially becomes transparent?
Or is there any way I can do this?
I hope that makes sense :o

then it is a real simple task. Select the type layer and then click on
Select>Load Selection whatever you called the layer
Channel: TEXTXYZ transparency Click OK. The text should be selected.
Click on Select>Modify>Expand, choose a pixel value, once you get that done
Click on Layer>Flatten Image, then Edit>Copy this should give you the text with a background color surround. The you can Paste it into another document or whatever you want to do.

If the document is flattened with the text on the Background, select the Eyedropper tool and select the text color so it is in the Foreground swatch.
then click Select>Color Range adjust the Fuzziness slider until you get all of the text selected. once the text is selected use Select>Modify>Expand and then copy the text. Hope this helps :-) John
