Building a custom computer for Photoshop

What resources are available to help plan a custom PC or Mac, for running Photoshop? Questions will include:

Should we choose a PC or a Mac?

Does Photoshop support multiple CPUs / multi-core CPUs?

Does Photoshop take advantage of Intel / AMD 64-bit CPU extensions?

What are the optimal requirements for a video card to run dual monitors?

Would appreciate any pointers to resources addressing these issues. Thanks!

I used to have a PC, I used to have crashes, blue screens of death and just overall weirdness. Plus viruses and worms to guard against.

I bought a Mac

I now have 3 years of productivity, no crashes and no blue screens.

I know that when I start my Mac in the AM it is going to perform all of the jobs and tasks that I ask it to.

Nothing against PCs but since I have used the Mac my job has become so much easier and so much more fun to do. John
