Okay, I have some artistic text that I grabbed from an illustration and put it on a temporary blue background.

Here it is: http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8605/sh2gf.jpg

What I want to do is grab this text so there is no background (i.e. only text), allowing me to paste it onto any colour background or other picture without the blue background.

Is there a quick way of doing this or would it be a manual job?

Thanks guys :)

EDIT: I've managed to grab the text (with the Magic Wand tool) but when I save I'm getting the white background as well. Do I need to save in a particular format to preserve the text only without the background?

If you save it as a PSD file then you will be able to open your new document and drag the Text layer to it. You could save as a PNG or GIF but then you would have to change the new document to that format. PSD is your best bet, then you can save all the layers separately. Just make sure the text layer is not the Background layer, always have a separate layer for any other work you do then it makes future work so much easier. Background layers have no significance if you don't want to use them, just make sure you save under a new name then nothing is lost.

Does that make sense :)

I just realised I was saving the background layer with the layer I needed :o

I deleted the background layer and kept the layer I needed, what a silly mistake
