im not exactly sure this is what you want but ill say it anyway, the way ive always dont lightning is:

crate a new document, go to filter>render>clouds, then filter>render>differnace couds (do the 2nd step a few times to get some good lines) then go to image>adjustments>invert (Ctrl+I).

tehn go to image>adjustments>levels, slide the little slider all teh way to the right!

This should give you a nice lightning effect (if not try doin more or less differance clouds)

to make it lightning text create a new layer above the lightning layer, fill it with white if it isnt already, then create a new text layer, type what ever you want!

tehn go back select the white layer, then hold Ctrl and click on the text layer, then hit the delete key! now delete (or hide) the text layer! you should now have some realistic lookin lightning :D !!!

if it dont work of this isnt what you are looking for then post bak!

To edit text you've created in Photoshop, just double-click the text layer in the Layers Palette and it should highlight, plus automatically grab the Type tool for you.

To zap the text altogether, just drag the text layer onto the little Trashcan icon at the bottom of the Layers Palette.
