Hi people!
I am new today to this forum and have some questions about this artist whose amazing images I've known of for several years now. His name is Layne Karkruff and he has this website, Blueskyheart Graphics (http://www.blueskyheart.com) where you can download a whole bunch of desktop images and icons for your personal pleasure. I especially love the iridescent, jewel-like orbs that are so prevalent in his work as well as the shiny metallic shapes. I would like to know how I can create those orbs in my own work. Can anyone in this forum point me to a tutorial that explains how to do this? Many thanks for your help!

I could be wrong, but that looks more like a 3D software, instead of PS. Anyone?

I'd be willing to bet that there isn't a tutorial written anywhere that can teach you how to come close to those results.

If I had to guess, he does use some 3d rendering. But most of the work is done in PS. Also a guess, he most likely works with huge image sizes (huge when compared to the 800x600 images we are accustomed to seeing) and uses a pen and tablet to airbrush them to perfection. He's an artist, for sure, and has a very good eye for the way light and reflections work.

I noticed that he has an email link on his site. Drop him a note and ask him what programs, equipment, etc. that he uses. He may not reply back to you. Then again, he might. Doesn't hurt to ask.:)

I don't think it is 3D, but then who knows.
As Dave says the guy is an artist and obviously has use Digital art for a long time.
You can find techniques for this sort of thing all over the net.
You could do well to look at Bert Monroy's Pixelperfect podcasts, he is a renowned PS artist.
