Hey.
I think i can help, but it might not be the best way to do it, there are probably better ways, but this seems to work ok.

-I open up both pictures I want to use, the one Im taking from, and the one im adding too.

-They are jpegs, but it prob works the same for other forms. Double click the "background" layer (the only layer that is there) in the layer palette and click OK when the box comes up, changing it to an editable layer. ("Layer 0")
(do this for both pictures, makes it easier)

-I take the "Lasso" tool from the tool box and outline the area I want to cut out, in this case, the head of a person. Make any connecting shape around the spot you want to use, release the tool. You now have a blinking dotted line around the area

-go to Edit > Cut, this cuts whats inside the lasso shape out of the picture. You can close this picture if you dont need anything more from it, making sure to NOT save changes to it, because if you do, it will be saved with the missing spot. Unless thats what you want.

-Bring up the picture you want to add the cut out spot to. go to Edit > Paste. This pastes what you cut out from the other picture onto the second picture as a new layer, seperate from the layer that was already there.

-You can now work with it, if you want to resize, or change the angle go to Edit > free transform, you can move it around anywhere you want with the "Move Tool" Move what you cut out to the spot where you want it to appear (Note that this layer you are working with will be ABOVE the layer that was already there, so that it shows up over top of the first layer)

-Now, there are many things you can do with it, changing colors to make it fit better with the picture....using the smudge and or blur tool to make it look better, like it's not so much a cut and paste job.
I have made a few quick little examples, not the greatest, but shows what I just talked about. If you want to see for reference let me know, I can email them (the photoshop files, that way you see the layering and such.)

Myles
ps, hope this helps at all

Thanks for the info. A few days after my first post I did actually work out how to do it. Although, they still look like cut and paste jobs so i'll try messing around with smudging and blurring. Again, thanks for your help.

you could also try using some of the other lasso tools, magnetic which automatically jumps to differant colours, and pollygonal (somert like that anyway lol) which only draws straight lines but you can have more then 1 stop point.

to see the extra tools right click on the lasso tool and the others will apear!

Hi, I think the best way to blend photos is using layers and layers mask. Here is a short description of how to do it:
1. Open the images you want to blend together.
2. With the Move tool select the image you want to place on the other (say if you have a bear body and a human head, select the human head)
3. Move the head (the human one on your file, not yours) to the other file (in this case the bear one)
4. A new layer is created in the bear file, Now, in the layers palette clic on the icon Create New layer Mask
5. Make sure you select the layer mask (clic on it on the layers palette) and with any painting tool, (I prefer the brush tool) paint on the mask with black or white to hide/show parts of the image. Its important to set the default colors and also make sure the opacity of the brush you select is set to 100% and its blending mode to Normal ( if its set to another blending mode or another opacity you will have semitransparent areas).

Hope this Help,
