View Full Version : Problem with Image Processor

I usually use Image Processor to apply an action on tons of files on CS2. When I upgraded to CS3, I simply copied the actions over to the new action folder. Problem is, with long actions, CS3 doesn't close each file after it has performed the action unlike CS2, leaving the desktop filled with processed photos. Also a dialog box appear at the end with the message "Sorry, I could not process the following files:(list of files)". still, the processed files are saved in the destination folder. But here's the funny thing, when I run short actions, everything is ok.
what could be wrong? I tried changing a few things in Image Processor dialog box but always get the same result. again, with shorter actions at the exact settings, the results are fine.

Hi Crossbones, welcome to the Planet.
My Photoshop help desk book by dave cross on page 161 say that while many actions may work others may not depending on what your actions may contain. Now he is talking about going from vs cs to cs 2, I would still think this information would apply to cs3 too.
I did do a little searching on google for it but didn't see anything there either. I'll look a little bit harder and will post it here if I find anything.

You're pretty hard core, Mitzs.
Hey Crossbone, welcome,
Honestly man, I find actions to work best in simplest of scenarios, but once I most past this it tends to get a bit glitchy and unreliable. Honestly, I'm not much of a action guru, for apparent biased reasons, however I am a bit of a JavaScript evangelist; might I suggest that when you find yourself getting into more complicated situations, you check out what sort of scripts are out there which accomplish the task your look for, or look into trying a bit of coding yourself. The good thing about scripts is that you know exactly how they run and can troubleshoot them yourself; complicated actions, on the other hand, give the appearance of giving you control, but pretty much leave you to hope for the best.
I hope I'm not sounding too pessimistic, I've just know that if you're like me, you'd rather not spend your time fighting something you can't entirely control.
Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the welcome, guys!
Mitzs,
I really appreciate your help. lemme know what you can find.
anyway, I'm beginning to think CS3 just isn't capable of handling long actions. Just to give you an idea what I'm doing is watermarking my photos with 3 items: a text logo, url and name. each of them consists of the same steps with the difference only being on their shape, size and position. so you can imagine 3 separate actions combine into 1. to test out my hypothesis, I deactivated 2 of them and tested for each one without any problem. next, I combined any 2 and failed. so my conclusion is CS3 just can't handle long actions as well as CS2.

Hey Cross, CS3 can handle long actions I've seen both Dave Cross and Matt K create them at Kelby Training and I belive on Photoshop user tv. And even though I am a newbie to photoshop matt taught me how to create a action that was more then 3 steps long. It just seems like something carried over from CS 2 is making CS 3 buck though. Something might have even become corrupted in the move. Have you tried to recreat the action on CS 3? Because I am not have any luck with my searching.

ok, I found this video by Matt K, it is about editing your actions. Maybe it will help you find exactly what is wrong and where.
