Hi Konnekt,
Try some "transparency dithering" method (under "Transparency" checkbox) and/or choose a "Matte" color (matching target webpage bg)

Perhaps the png file format is an option for you... Also allows transparrency, and in my opinion it looks better than gif!

You can hack actually IE 6 so transparency can be achieved. It is small Java Script that can be embedded in head of the HTML document or you can link it externally by placing it in sites root folder. Just google transparency in internet explorer. It is script just in few lines of code. Also you can achieve transparency with CSS too. But transparency with CSS is used when you have solid color so you don't need to manage that with image because CSS can do the job.
Now about PNG. It does look better a lot from .gif but file size is also bigger too. So you have to see how much benefit you will have with PNG and what do you actually want - quality over file size.
Cheers :)

Keep in mind as well what sort of users you're expecting to visit your website. If you want grandma-who-hasn't-upgraded-her-computer-since-her-kids-forced-her-to-buy-one-eight-years-ago to be able to visit your site, then you'll want to keep the max transfer at a low, as to cater to her 14k modem and low processing power. On the other hand, if your site is for high-end consumers, gamers, or the like, then you can pretty much assume broadband - especially since the massive proliferation of broadband internet within the past few years.
On that note, if you're therefore aiming at someone with broadband, then you can pretty much just relax and use entirely PNG files to accomplish your task - as the difference between the size of a GIF and PNG in light of broadband's speed is rather minuscule.
Hope this helps.

thx for your advice.. i went with png at the end because it was to much goin on for gif.. couldent make it look good.
nemesis i looked into that javascript you wrote about seems cool.. im defently gone use that for another project i got coming up where the client is more like "it have to be for everybody"
thx agin
You can also try creating the gif on the exact color background it will live upon once it's on the web. By doing that, you have the right color to choose in the matte pop-up menu. Seems to create flawless edges for me.
