When making a selection and putting in it a layer to modify, all of the layers result in the modifications. I want to only modify the selection. It is probably something very simple that is being left out. Thanks.

Good site. Glad the forum is back.

Hi leap,

Probably you can try duplicating your selection. It will be free for modification and wont affect your original picture. (after your selection, press ctrl -J or cmd-J for mac) It will dup a copy of your selection on top of your original layer.

You can also try checking if the layers are linked together. If they are linked, all modification will also include those linked layers. There are two checkbox just besides your layers on the left. The eye icon means the layer is visible, a brush icon means you are editing the current layer and those layers with a chain icon are linked together.

Also remember if you have made a selection on a blank new layer make sure you highlight the layer with the section you wish to copy to its own layer before hitting Ctril J. Hide the other layers afterwards to see what you did get copied to the new layer.
