I use a 3D Cad type software. It's an amazing program but there are restrictions with the capablities of teh view tool with the program. Using screen caputures allow me to make a bmp/jpg of whatever I want that is showing on my screen. So that works great, but for things larger than what is showing on my screen, I'm screwed. I downloaded about 7 trial (Full featured) screen captures that had 'Scrolling Captures' features. Some of them produced an error without taking a picture. Others looked like they were going to work but the image produced was distorted. I played around with the 'scrolling time' settings, etc, to no avail. BTW most of them worked fine on internet wondows etc, but not on my 3D program.
Which brings me here. I realise this probably isn't the 'intended purpose' of Photoshop but I know next to nothing about it :confused:but figured it might have the capablity to take such 'pictures'. All I want to be able to do is pick a point, pan/scroll to another point (that was beyond the screen view), and produce an image of that retangle at the resolution it's showing on my screen.
Sorry this was so long. Hopefully it makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're on a PC, you might try Camtasia. If you're on a Mac, I'd try SnapzPro or iShowU. All of these programs are available on VersionTracker.com (http://www.versiontracker.com). Just choose the appropriate OS tab then do your search. Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for the response. I checked out the Camtasia online tour but got the impression it only did video. I posted on 'a Camtasia' form in this regards. Apparently it can be done though it was suggested that 'it wouldn't be as good as using snagit'. I'm not sure if they meant as far as being user friendly or results. Anyways I'll download their trial and go from there. Again thank you very much for your help. There's still hope!:o
