I am using Photoshop 6 and I am trying to apply a background of a specific color to a logo. Both of the little square boxes on the left side of Photoshop are set to #330000 , yet when I try to apply the background color, it is black. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I've never had this problem before.
Thanks
Mark

Sounds like your color swatch are set to black. Or you are on Grayscale mode.

Double click on one of the color boxes on the left and choose the color you want. Then the color fill should be the one you want.

That didn't work. No matter what color I set them to, one will be black, the other white.

When things start acting funky (not acting like usual), the first thing I try is to reset Photoshop's preferences. You do that by quitting Photoshop, then holding:

Mac: Shift-Option-Command
PC: Shift-Alt-Control

and then launch Photoshop again. A dialog box will appear asking you if you want to reset Photoshop's settings file (or something like that). Click OK, and it will install a factory-fresh set of preferences, and that may fix the problem. It's worth a try.

I tried that and nothing happened. No box came up, or anything.

Isnīt your image mode set to grayscale or something? It should be on RGB or CMYK or LAB...

Where do you set "Image Mode?"

Mark,

It sounds like you're set to Bitmap mode.

Modes are in the Image menu.

Image>Mode

Set the mode to RGB, and you should be fine.

I looked and it was set for RGB Color. Is this correct?

Perhaps you've currently got an alpha channel selected in your channels palette.

What you're describing doesn't really make sense.

I hate to sound dumb, because I've never had to do anything but use photoshop before this. Where do I find "Channels Palette?"

I continue to struggle with this. Can someone contact me via one of the messenger services and put the background on this logo for me?
