Contests Everywhere

Happy Friday out there! First off, today is the final day to submit entries for the iPhone Photo Contest. You can submit up to three photos taken on your iPhone for a chance to win a $500 gift card to the Apple store. You have until 11:59 tonight to submit your pics. Click here for the submit page.

Also, you have one more week to submit entries for the Layers Magazine Back Page Design Contest. This contest is open to anyone 18 and over. Simply go to the site, download the image, and let your creative energy run wild as you design a Flash banner ad using this image. You can add to it anything you like–go crazy, but the supplied image has to be worked in there some way. The grand prize for this contest is an Epson STYLUS PRO 3800. Click here for full details and to download the image.

Create A Composite Layer

If you have a multilayer composition and you
want to apply an effect to all the layers at once, don’t flatten the layers–use a composite layer instead. Hide the layers you want excluded, and press Shift-Command-Option-E (PC: Shift-Ctrl-Alt-E). A new layer will be created at the top containing a merged copy of all the visible layers.

Another option is to create a new layer at the top of the stack and make it active. Command-click (PC: Ctrl-click) each layer you want to include to make those layers active, as well. Press Option-Command-E (PC: Alt-Ctrl-E).
