Photoshop Book of the Week

This week’s selection is Welcome to Oz: A Cinematic Approach to Digital Still Photography with Photoshop by renowned photographer and Photoshop World instructor Vincent Versace. Photoshop World Early Bird

The time is near. That’s right, Photoshop World Las Vegas is ever so close. We’re just over a month and a half away from the Photoshop love fest of the year. Join Scott Kelby, Dave Cross, Matt Kloskowski, RC and myself, among many others, to talk about nothing but Photoshop. Of course, I’m sure we will manage to talk about other apps as well. I have a new class called Earth, Wind, & Fire. It’s all about using Photoshop to create natural effects like water, ice, clouds, fire, etc. And there will even be a couple surprises. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Also, if you haven’t registered yet, you only have a couple of weeks to take advantage of the early bird registration, which ends on August 3. You can save a hundred bucks that you can then throw down on the craps tables.

Terry’s Tech Blog

Some of you may remember me mentioning the Creative Suite Podcast, hosted by Adobe’s very own Terry White. Well, Terry also has a really cool tech blog where he posts his reviews of the newest and coolest gadgets. He has an interesting write up on the new iPhone, among other things. It might be worth a peek if you are a gadget geek . Check it out here.

Photoshop Book of the Week

This week’s selection is the Photoshop Finishing Touches book by my Canadian colleague Dave Cross. This book shows you a number of ways to give your images that one last finishing touch to really make them pop, whether it’s using a border effect, dramatic lighting effects, or even some interesting artistic effects. It’s a handy book that you will want to keep nearby so that you can refer to it. The material is relevant to Photoshop CS2 and CS3. Find out more about this book here.

Lightroom to iPhone

With the immense popularity of Apple’s new iPhone, some photographers may be curious about how to get their photos from Lightroom to their iPhone. James Duncan Davidson has a quick little tutorial on doing that very thing. Check it out here.

Golf Anyone!!

In case you haven’t seen it yet, we shot this week’s episode of NAPP TV at the golf course. It seemed like such a leisurely and stormy day that it just had to be done. I found myself  stuck in the sand trap a couple times but I don’t claim to be any real golf enthusiast either. Nevertheless, it was fun. Watch now as the Scott Kelby and the Histograms take to the links.

Back from the Bahamas!!

Bahama

Well, I am back from the Bahamas where I was for a company meeting. What a trip. Dave Cross and I managed to get away and shoot a local model there in Nassau. We walked all over just shooting at random locations. We even ended up by the courthouse where they held Anna Nicole’s baby trial. Here is one of the shots I worked up from that shoot. I will post more as I get them developed.

Viewing and Basking in your Image

When I’m done working with an image, I like to sit and admire it (hey, I spent six hours working on it, I should). To do that, I hit the Tab key, then hit the F key three times. This hides all of the panels and toolbars and lets you see the image by itself surrounded by black. To get back to regular mode, press the F key and the Tab key one more time.
