This week’s selection is the Photoshop Finishing Touches book by my Canadian colleague Dave Cross. This book shows you a number of ways to give your images that one last finishing touch to really make them pop, whether it’s using a border effect, dramatic lighting effects, or even some interesting artistic effects. It’s a handy book that you will want to keep nearby so that you can refer to it. The material is relevant to Photoshop CS2 and CS3. Find out more about this book here.
With the immense popularity of Apple’s new iPhone, some photographers may be curious about how to get their photos from Lightroom to their iPhone. James Duncan Davidson has a quick little tutorial on doing that very thing. Check it out here.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, we shot this week’s episode of NAPP TV at the golf course. It seemed like such a leisurely and stormy day that it just had to be done. I found myself stuck in the sand trap a couple times but I don’t claim to be any real golf enthusiast either. Nevertheless, it was fun. Watch now as the Scott Kelby and the Histograms take to the links.
Well, I am back from the Bahamas where I was for a company meeting. What a trip. Dave Cross and I managed to get away and shoot a local model there in Nassau. We walked all over just shooting at random locations. We even ended up by the courthouse where they held Anna Nicole’s baby trial. Here is one of the shots I worked up from that shoot. I will post more as I get them developed.

I’ve noticed a lot of people asking what good books on Photoshop there are out there. Well I thought that I would start by highlighting a book each week. This week I am recommending Katrin Eismann’s Masking and Compositing book. It’s a remarkable book on generating complex selections, color correction, using layers and masks, and creative compositing. This book is intended for the intermediate to advanced user. The book also has a companion web site where you can download the tutorial images to practice the techniques yourself. Find out more about this book here.
This is a site my fellow Photoshop guy Dave Cross was telling me about. It’s called Trash The Dress, and it’s just what it sounds like. This photographer take brides after their wedding is all over and photographs them in odd places like in the water, in the mud, at the beach, and even on fire. It’s a really creative way of shooting a common subject in a very different way. I guess the real challenge is getting a bride to trash her wedding dress. Check it out here.

Eddie ia an award-winning photographer and Photoshop Hall of Famer. From John Nack’s Blog:
I’m pleased to report that Adobe has teamed up with Google on 3D, enabling Photoshop CS3 Extended to browse the Google 3D Warehouse, then download 3D models right into Photoshop. The upshot is that Photoshop users now have direct access to a large & growing repository of free, community-driven 3D content.
The plug-in and more info are available on Adobe Labs. (Note: The team is working to fix a bug found in the Windows version at the last minute. Therefore the Mac plug-in is up now, and the Windows version should be up tomorrow.)

Sometimes our best creations happen by pure experimentation and accident. Sitting in front of a Photoshop file, you are 40 History States in, and then it happens—magic! You really want to be able to get back to that moment. To do so, make sure that you turn on the History Log checkbox in the General Preferences (Photoshop>Preferences>General [PC: Edit>Preferences>General]). You can save the information as metadata, as a separate text file, or both!
