Photoshop Book of the Week

Ok, I have been lagging on this topic so I thought I would catch up. My pick this week is the Photoshop Speed Clinic Book by my fellow Photoshop Guy, Matt Kloskowski. This is an essential read if you want to enhance your productivity in Photoshop. Matt writes about getting the most out of Photoshop’s vast collection of tools, and how to do it in no time at all. The book covers everything from actions and scripting to creating more streamlined workflow scenarios. It’s jam-packed with full-blown tutorials and little quick tips all throughout. Check it out here.

Wacom’s New Bamboo

Some of you may know that Wacom just revealed the new logo and slick new look of the Intuous 3 at Photoshop World. Now this was really cool, but if you are just a hobbyist and want the power of a tablet without spending a whole lot of cash, then Wacom has also introduced the all new Bamboo. This sleek new product is set to replace the Graphire series and I have to admit, this is pretty sweet little device. There’s the Bamboo and the Bamboo Fun. Check them out. Not only do they give you Wacom’s quality digital pen technology but they also will look pretty cool on your desk.

Update Friday!!

Adobe has released Camera Raw 4.2 for both Mac and Windows platforms. This update adds a number of new camera models including the Canon 40D. Also available is Lightroom 1.2, again for both Mac and Windows. This update includes additional camera support and addresses some performance issues as well.

Also, yesterday I posted a link to the iPhone parody starring John Loiacono. Well it seems to be attracting quite a buzz and can now be viewed through the Layers Magazine website here. If you haven’t seen this yet check it out, it is too funny!!!

Photoshop For iPhone?

Well, no….not really, but last week during keynote ceremony at Photoshop World, attendees were entertained by the iPhone for Photoshop spoof. The 2 minute spot depicts Adobe’s John Loiacono in an iPhone commercial heralding the iPhone’s amazing ability to run full-version Photoshop with some cool demonstrations along the way. It is a hilarious piece and the crowd got the biggest kick out of it. You can watch the entire spot here. My hats off to NAPP’s own video editor Jason Scrivner for putting together such a complex and humorous piece in such a short time. Nice job, dude! Hey, for more of the keynote check out Terry White’s Creative Suite podcast here.

Adobe Reveals New Photoshop Branding

Adobe revealed the new Photoshop logo and tagline at the tech expo at Photoshop World last week in Las Vegas. This new logo is to be representative of the entire Photoshop family of products: Photoshop CS3, Photoshop CS3 Extended, Lightroom, and Elements. Adobe also revealed a sneak peek of Photoshop Express; an online version of Photoshop that offers basic correction tools right through the web. It certainly has its limitations when compared to the full version, but will certainly bring imaging technology to a larger number of people.

News From Photoshop World

Corey image

What a week. Its been crazy here from the moment we got off the plane, it has been non-stop excitement. Me and the rest of the Histograms performed at the keynote and the crowd just loved it. The tech expo has been amazing, I went and visited Russell Brown’s booth where they are using a 3D scanner that travels around your head and generates a 3D model in a matter of seconds. As you can see my head here. I masked half of my face so you can see the model underneath. Really cool stuff. I will have an update from Midnight Madness tomorrow.

A Little Less Conversation, A Little More Action

I am off to Las Vegas for Photoshop World today. So if you plan on being there, make sure you come up to me and say Hi!!! I can’t wait. I Love Vegas and I love Photoshop World. It’s going to be a blast. Lots of learning from the very best in the business. I will blog updates as the events unfold. Chris Main says Hi!!

Lightroom Named Imaging Software of the Year

Popular Photography magazine has named Adobe Photoshop Lightroom as the Imaging Software of the Year. I must admit, I am not surprised. Lightroom is certainly one of the most robust new products I have ever encountered. If you’re a digital photographer, at any level, there’s no question that Lightroom should be part of your workflow. Congrats to Adobe for once again raising the bar in digital imaging.

Photoshop Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

One of the many highlights of the keynote at Photoshop World is the induction ceremony of the Photoshop Hall of Fame. At Photoshop World Boston last April, there were several nominees announced and two more will be honored in Vegas: Color Management guru, author, and instructor Andrew Rodney as well as Adobe’s Senior Director for Product Management, Professional Digital Imaging Group; Kevin Conner. Let me be among the first to congratulate these two for making remarkable advances in digital imaging and design. Click here to find out more about the Photoshop Hall of Fame.

Document Your Happy Accidents

Sometimes our best creations happen by pure experimentation and accident. Sitting in front of a Photoshop file, you are 40 History States in, and then it happens—magic! You really want to be able to get back to that moment. To do so, make sure that you turn on the History Log checkbox in the General Preferences (Photoshop>Preferences>General [PC: Edit>Preferences>General]). You can save the information as metadata, as a separate text file, or both!
