My buddy Matt Kloskowski has a Lightroom blog called Lightroom Killer Tips and he has recently started providing presets that you can download and use right away. Presets are great, especially in Lightroom, because most of the work is done for you. You may need to tweak a few settings here and there. Matt also provides videos and quick tips that make your Lightroom workflow much easier and, most importantly, more fun!!!
Just in case you haven’t seen this guy’s stuff, I’m posting a link because it’s really cool to watch. He’s an artist named Nico Di Mattia, and he does digital illustrations in Photoshop. This means he is drawing and painting his images in Photoshop the same way you would on a canvas. He records while he is working on them and plays it back in time-lapse. It is really interesting stuff. His website is www.speed-painting.com. Now, being the Transformers fan that I am, I have to give you another link to a piece he did illustrating Bumble Bee from the new Transformers movie. Check it out.

I know, I spent way too much time on that title. The point is, I want to remind you web designers and aspiring web designers alike that we are just a little more than a week away from the Voices That Matter: Web Design Conference in San Francisco on October 22 - 25. Why do I bring this up? Because I am teaching two pre-conference workshops. The first one is called Building A Website Using Photoshop & Dreamweaver. The second one is Interactive Content with Photoshop & Flash. It’s going to be a lot of fun because we are going to be doing the “fun” stuff, which is designing visually, with very little code involved. More than that, there is a long list of conference sessions covering creativity, context, and structure. There is still time to register, so check it out here.

I just thought I would point this out because quite a few people have asked me about this. If you have been using Adobe products for some time you’ve no doubt visited the Adobe website. However, there is another site that you may or may not know about. It’s the Adobe Labs site. It is so named because this is where the experimental technology from Adobe resides. You can download betas and prereleases of the newest software Adobe is developing. Like the new Adobe Media Player or the Adobe AIR Beta. Check it out here.
Ok, I had to go ahead and post my book pick this week because it is already getting a lot of buzz. Scott Kelby has a new book coming out later this month called Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop. It’s quite simply a workflow checklist for handling virtually any imaging issue you encounter. Have you ever uploaded your images to your computer and said to yourself, “Now what do I do?” This book is the answer. For a clearer explanation by Scott himself go here.
Last week at the Adobe Max conference in Chicago Adobe gave another glimpse into Photoshop Express. The new online app that is coming soon to a browser near you. Hi folks!! Well, I am headed out for day two of the Adobe Max conference, being held here in Chicago. It’s been quite an event so far. A lot of new technologies were revealed yesterday. Some are available now and some are on the way. I will post more details as I get them. Right now, I am off to the second day keynote. That’s right, a second day keynote. Wild stuff! Take care. We will talk again.
Ok, I have been lagging on this topic so I thought I would catch up. My pick this week is the Photoshop Speed Clinic Book by my fellow Photoshop Guy, Matt Kloskowski. This is an essential read if you want to enhance your productivity in Photoshop. Matt writes about getting the most out of Photoshop’s vast collection of tools, and how to do it in no time at all. The book covers everything from actions and scripting to creating more streamlined workflow scenarios. It’s jam-packed with full-blown tutorials and little quick tips all throughout. Check it out here.

Sometimes our best creations happen by pure experimentation and accident. Sitting in front of a Photoshop file, you are 40 History States in, and then it happens—magic! You really want to be able to get back to that moment. To do so, make sure that you turn on the History Log checkbox in the General Preferences (Photoshop>Preferences>General [PC: Edit>Preferences>General]). You can save the information as metadata, as a separate text file, or both!
